Willow Springs Park faces unique challenges due to the fact that it is an active oilfield. During a recent site survey by FracTracker Alliance, two oil wells were found to be leaking in Willow Springs Park. Although not all wells were surveyed by the volunteer group that conducted the site visit, this demonstrates the dangers of continued oil operation in areas classified as sensitive receptors as per SB 1137. Videos of the two neglected wells in the park were taken with a high-tech infrared camera which can detect gasses that are invisible to the human eye. Videos of the leaking gasses can be seen below: The Friends of Willow Springs Park advocate for incremental phase out of oil production in Long Beach, culminating in a complete phase out by 2035, as promised by the City Manager to the State Governor's office (see letter below.)
