Conservation Corps of Long Beach
The Conservation Corps of Long Beach is a 12-Month Job Training Program for youth ages 18–26. Since 1987 they’ve been on a mission to support young people in realizing their potential through work, service, conservation, and education, becoming environmental stewards in the process. Corps members build and maintain local parks and greenbelts, plant drought-tolerant landscapes, install irrigation systems, reduce fire fuels, and steward local waterways. Long Beach Community Compost
Long Beach Community Compost boosts community health by upcycling food waste back into healthy soil and promoting human connection. In 2023, they collected and processed over 62,000 lbs of food scraps. They currently have 12 working compost piles and 4 backyard compost bins. Farm Lot 59
Farm Lot 59’s mission is to incubate and inspire the culture of urban farming in our community. Since 2010, they’ve provided outdoor education to thousands of youth, helped change policies that have modernized the city’s agriculture ordinance, and fought for healthy food access. Long Beach Beekeepers
When honey bees are found in less than ideal places, the first inclination can be to exterminate them. But bees are a critical part of our ecosystem. Long Beach Office of Climate Action & Sustainability
The City of Long Beach Office of Climate Action & Sustainability works to create a more sustainable community by engaging with individuals, neighborhoods, and government to equitably reduce our impact on the environment and protect our local natural resources. The Office of Climate Action & Sustainability reports to the City Manager’s office and supports the Sustainable City Commission, an advisory body to City Council. The Office of Climate Action & Sustainability restores Willow Springs Park in partnership with the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department. So far, they’ve planted over 200 native trees and 6,440 native plants, and improved local water quality and supply. Check out these awesome before and after pictures! Opportunities:
